Dr. Red, Writer
Growing up, Dr. Red always planned to be a writer. In the past several years, despite a very busy schedule, Dr. Red has returned to her first love.
Dr. Red’s Writings
Dr. Red is currently working on a book focused on Surviving Violent Loss. As a trauma surgeon, a hospice doctor, and the survivor of multiple violent losses, she is uniquely positioned to address this often overlooked topic.
Dr. Red has been featured on KevinMD where she has written about the power of patient stories and the similarities between the practice of yoga and the practice of surgery.
Her narrative essay entitled “The Sound of Silence – When There Are No Words” was initially published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in August 2019 and was then featured in a May 2020 issue as one of the 40 best "A Piece of My Mind" essays published in the last decade.
In April 2021, Red had the distinct honor of having a second essay published in JAMA'S "A Piece of My Mind," focused on her experiences of being a trauma surgeon as well as the caregiver of a trauma survivor.
